Krásnohorská jaskyňa (Krásnohorská Cave)    Google Map

Krásnohorská Cave is situated in the National Park of the Slovak Karst (Slovenský kras), close to the village Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka. It is a unique natural formation which belongs to the world natural and cultural heritage of UNESCO.
The sightseeing tourist path leads to a Stalactite of Speleologists, which is a gigantic 32,6 m high column. It is a monumental natural creation, unique in caves of moderate climate zone.
Krásnohorská Cave is a final stage of the cave system of the underground creek Buzgó. It was created mostly by the dissolvent process in dolomites and limestone. Nowadays 1556 m of tunnels of this cave system have been explored, but only about 450 m are open to public. The path leads to Hall of Giants from which the visitors need to return the same way.
A sightseeing 450 m long path is open to public thanks to wooden benches which help to cross the underground creek which flows through the main parts of the cave. With the help of small rope footbridges visitors also can cross two underground lakes. It is not difficult, but a very unusual experience. Children up to the age of 15 have to be accompanied by an adult. The admittance for children younger than 8 years is allowed only under condition that each kid has 1 adult guide. The presence of parents is of course necessary. Older children can manage the tour without problems. Also overweight people should rather consider if they join the guided tour, as it requires a certain level of flexibility and there are narrow passages on the path.
The path is sometimes hilly and requires good shoes (boots can be rented for a small fee).
Visitors meet with their guides in the guest house Jozefína in the village Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka where they have a storage of equipment for the professional guides. After visitors get the necessary equipment, they go by foot to the cave entrance (1 km far) - following the path with several interesting monuments.
